Open P7M files on Mac, Windows and phones

Use an up-to-date browser without installing a P7M viewer. First save the attachment on your device, then choose it in the box above.

Windows and Mac

  1. Download the .p7m attachment from PEC or email to your Downloads folder.
  2. Drag it into the viewer or use “Open your P7M file” to select it.
  3. Read the document and choose “Download original” to save its contents.

iPhone and iPad

  1. In your mail app, use Share and save the attachment to the Files app.
  2. Open the viewer in Safari or another up-to-date browser and tap “Open your P7M file”.
  3. Browse your files and select the saved attachment. If it is missing, check that it has finished downloading.

Android

  1. Download the .p7m attachment from your mail app to your phone.
  2. Open the viewer in your browser and tap “Open your P7M file”.
  3. Find the document in Downloads or your file manager and select it.

UNDERSTAND THE FORMAT

What is a P7M file?

The .p7m extension identifies a CAdES envelope that can contain a document and digital signature information. Its contents may be a PDF, an XML invoice or another format: the P7M name alone does not tell you which document is inside.

To read a P7M, open its envelope instead of renaming it to .pdf. Here you can view supported formats, inspect available signature information and download the extracted document. Other file types remain downloadable in their original format.

Is your P7M showing an error?

Download the attachment again if it is incomplete. A detached signature also needs the original document; a protected PDF may prevent previewing. The guide helps you tell these cases apart.

How do I open a P7M file online for free?

Choose your file in the box above. The P7M viewer extracts the document inside the CAdES envelope: read every PDF page, view XML invoices and download the original for free. The limit is 50 MB per file.

Are all pages and downloads free too?

Yes. Full-document reading, original downloads and PDF export of XML invoices are currently free. No registration, subscription or license code is needed.

Can I convert any P7M to PDF?

It depends on the contents. If the P7M contains a PDF, the same original PDF is extracted. For a FatturaPA XML or XML.P7M invoice, you can generate a PDF reading copy. Other formats remain downloadable in their original format and are not converted to PDF.

How do I read an XML.P7M invoice?

Open the XML.P7M file like any other P7M. For a FatturaPA invoice, the viewer shows the supplier, customer, line items and totals present in the XML. Download the original XML or choose “Export as PDF”.

Do I need to install software on a Mac, Windows PC or phone?

No. Use an up-to-date browser. On a phone, first save the attachment in Files or Downloads, then choose it in the box above. Larger documents need more available memory on your device.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. Contents are read in browser memory and downloads are created on your device. We do not send or store documents on our servers. After closing or reloading the page, you will need to choose your file again.

Why will my P7M file not open?

The file may be incomplete, not be a valid CAdES envelope, exceed 50 MB or contain a detached signature without the document. A password-protected PDF can prevent previewing. Read the error message and check the troubleshooting guide.

Does opening the P7M fully validate its digital signature?

No. We show signers, certificate dates and cryptographic integrity results. We do not verify AgID/eIDAS trust, revocation, timestamps or PAdES signatures embedded in PDFs. Full validation requires a dedicated validator.
